What it is
StemWave is a form of focused acoustic-pressure-wave therapy. A handheld applicator delivers acoustic waves into the target tissue, stimulating cellular activity, increasing local blood flow, and prompting the body's own repair response.
What it's used for
- Chronic soft-tissue injuries — that have plateaued in earlier care
- Tendon and ligament injuries — rotator cuff, plantar fascia, achilles, lateral and medial epicondylitis
- Persistent muscle trigger points — unresponsive to manual release
- Slow-healing post-accident injuries — where manual care alone has stalled
What a session looks like
You're positioned with the affected area exposed. A small amount of gel is applied. The applicator is moved over the target tissue for 5–15 minutes depending on the area and condition. Sensation ranges from mild tapping to brief discomfort at higher settings. Most patients tolerate it well.
A typical course is 3–6 sessions, scheduled 3–7 days apart.
What the evidence says
Acoustic wave therapy has reasonable supporting evidence for several musculoskeletal conditions, particularly chronic tendinopathies. It is not a substitute for primary care of the injury — it's an adjunct that often accelerates recovery in cases where manual therapy alone has stalled.
